Permanencia by David Velez released today

“The Men of Earth came to Mars. They came because they were afraid or unafraid, because they were happy or unhappy... They were coming to find something or leave something...” Ray Bradbury from The Martian Chronicles

The quest for quietude allowed me to experience the desert and its sonorities. The arid conditions gave a harsh direction to the way I perceived the desert. But at the same time the reigning quietude there gave it a soothing and pleasant character to my experience.

My approach with this untreated one-shot recording was to explore this harsh-pleasant contrast with a subtle processing of the frequencies giving the piece a documental approach. Unlike in most of my works, loudness was taken into consideration not as a technical issue, but as a formal aspect.
